2025-2026 NISD Middle School Book Brawl Resources

NISD Middle School Book Brawl

Every year NISD Middle Schools host the Book Brawl competition which is open to all students in grades 6-8. Book Brawl is a reading incentive program designed to improve reading comprehension and enthusiasm for reading using a fun and unique competition format.

Participants are given a reading list of eight books and challenged to read those books. Students form teams of their choosing and compete against each other to determine their knowledge and understanding of the books. This year’s books were carefully selected by Northwest ISD Middle School Library Media Specialists and include a variety of genres, reading levels, and themes. All Book Brawl book selections are available for check out through the school library, available through Sora, and can be found at public libraries - so there is no cost to participate. If students wish to purchase their own copies of the books, that is certainly their prerogative. The titles selected for the middle school competition this year are shown below.

This year two of our Wilson teams placed 1st and 3rd out of the 20 middle school teams competing!  Several students returning to Wilson next year have asked for a list of the books for next year's competition.  I would love to have all of my teams continue to compete and have even more students who didn't compete this year join in on the fun and advance to district in the spring of 2026.  Sign-ups for the 2025-2026 Book Brawl competition will begin Fall 2025 around September, but students are more than welcome to read the books over summer for a headstart!
