The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Dr. Laura Koehler as the next principal of Wilson Middle School, placing an experienced leader at the helm of the campus.

Dr. Koehler comes to Northwest ISD from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, where she currently serves as principal of Grapevine Middle School, a position she has held since 2017. Prior to becoming principal, she served as an assistant principal and then as the associate principal of Colleyville Heritage High School between 2014 to 2017.

Notably, Dr. Koehler brings the experience of raising her children in Northwest ISD, providing familiarity with the district. Dr. Koehler said she looks forward to continuing the strong community relationships in place at Wilson Middle School.

“I know a strong commitment to high-quality education and community involvement thrives in Northwest ISD, and I’m excited to get to lead those efforts at Wilson Middle School,” she said. “I look forward to continuing the great work already in place thanks to the tremendous Wilson staff and getting to know the community.”

Before entering campus leadership, Dr. Koehler served as a teacher in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD for 11 years. She has also served as an instructional coach in GCISD’s English Language Arts program for two years.

Dr. Koehler earned her doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Texas, her master’s degree in adult and higher education from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and her bachelor’s degree from Texas State University.

She will succeed Natalie Childress, who the school board recently named as the inaugural principal of Worthington Middle School. Mrs. Childress will continue to serve as principal through the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year, after which time Dr. Koehler will take over.
